From 1996 to 1998, Manchester United experienced two contrasting seasons under the legendary management of Alex Ferguson.

1996–97 Season:

Manchester United dominated English football by finishing 1st in the Premier League, securing the title in a competitive season. Although they excelled in the league, their cup performances fell short. They were eliminated in the fourth rounds of both the FA Cup and League Cup. In Europe, United reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, demonstrating their growing strength on the continental stage. They also claimed the Charity Shield title. Ole Gunnar Solskjær was the club’s top scorer, netting 18 goals in the league and 19 overall across all competitions, quickly establishing himself as a fan favorite.

1997–98 Season:

The following season saw Manchester United finish as runners-up in the Premier League, coming second behind Arsenal. Their cup form remained unremarkable, exiting the FA Cup in the fifth round and the League Cup in the third. In the UEFA Champions League, they made it to the quarter-finals, an improvement but still short of the final. Once again, they claimed the Charity Shield trophy, a testament to their domestic dominance. Andy Cole led the scoring charts, with 15 goals in the league and 25 overall, continuing his impressive contributions to the team.

These two seasons reflected Manchester United's ability to compete at the highest level both domestically and in Europe, setting the stage for further success under Ferguson's management.
